This is (hmmm…. let’s see) the 5th year I designed the promo package for an Annual College Event. Each year I see myself comparing and choosing a new method and a theme for the overall design.
Usually the package would include 11″ X 14″ or 11″ X 17″ posters, 8.5″ X 11″ flyers for folks to insert in folders and mailboxes. And then we have the half-sheet 5.5″ X 8.5″ mailers.
The mailer is my favorite one because I remember at one point, we printed over 8,000 counts, two-sided, 4 colors full bleed. Then we have two huge marquees on both sides of the college’s entrances, internal TV screen display and of course, 3-column-size newspaper ads.
Pretty awesome variety of things to play with.
I usually keep a couple of the proofs from the press for myself as samples for the next year’s designs. Talking about design trends…OK…OK. I’m guilty for overuse the trends a little
.
For example:
- This year 2009, the theme is 3D objects (leaves, pencils, post-it notes, pieces of clothes, tags), hand-writting typefaces, Polaroid frame photos, funky notebook paper
- The 2008 package was “GO GREEN + LIGHT GRUNGE BRUSHES”
- The one before that, 2007 was “CLEAN STYLE + FLOURISHY BRUSHES”
- Let’s see 2006 (I can’t remember this one, maybe it’s 2 AM, that’s why)
- Um… oh right…right…2005 was totally “SHINY GRADIENT + SHADOW, WEB 2.0 LOOKING”
I’ll try to get some more example of each year. I’m almost done with customizing the codes for dynamic gallery plug-in. So stay tune.
